There are many approaches used to keep deer away from your property. Irrespective of the option you choose, here are some practical tips that you need to know when installing a deer fence.
Make the Fence Tall
Deer are athletic animals, which are capable of jumping incredibly tall structures. As such, if you are building a standard single upright fence, then ensure that your fence is at least eight feet tall. This does not mean that they cannot jump over, but it will undoubtedly deter them from jumping.
Make the Fence Deep
If you do not want to make the fence tall, you can also explore the possibility of constructing two shorter fences with a maximum of six feet between them. While deer can hump high and a long-distance, they cannot do both. Deer also have poor sight, and installing a double fence, even if neither is particularly tall, can suffice.
Ensure the Bottom is Secure
If the deer realizes that it cannot jump over the barrier, then they might resort to exploring other options of getting past your barrier. These animals will persistently nose around the base until they find their way out. So, as much as you might have taken care of their jumping abilities, make sure that the bottom is secure.
Limit Spacing Between the Posts
You should avoid spreading the posts too far apart. This is essential in reducing the number of weal links around your fence that could potentially be used as entryways by these aggressive animals. Shortening the spaces between the spaces also minimizes the likelihood of slagging. As a tip, make sure that spacing between the posts does not exceed 12 feet. 
Use Warning Ribbons
Some types of fences, such as black plastic and wire fences, can be difficult for a deer to see. To take care of the deer’s poor eyesight, you should try to add brightly colored ribbons. These markers reduce the incidences of damage caused when a deer runs straight into your fence.
